On Saturday, July 20th, Bro. David Hirt professed his perpetual vows as a Capuchin. The morning liturgy hosted about 150 family, friends and friars who watched an emotional David profess his vows and then tearfully share the sign of peace with well-wishers.
David presents an unusual path to profession from several perspectives. Inquiring very late in the application process in 2007, he intensively visited many Capuchin friaries to prepare for an application and quickly moved into residence at St. Clare of Montefalco Capuchin Community and Parish on Chicago’s south side. He was one of four to begin his postulancy, but the only one to move on to novitiate, an unusual statistic for recent classes for whom the average retention rate is 60%.
David will spend the next few years on the staff of St. Lawrence Seminary High School in Mt. Calvary, Wisconsin.
