Our annual Triduum Retreat is coming up on April 17-20, Holy Thursday through Easter Sunday. The event begins with supper on Holy Thursday and actually ends after the Easter Vigil late on Holy Saturday, but most participants stay overnight and leave on Easter Sunday morning. The retreat happens at St. Lawrence Seminary and Friary in Mt. Calvary, Wisconsin.
Sr. Dianne Bergant, CSA is offering four sessions during the retreat. A professor at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago on the Biblical faculty, Dianne will use her sessions to reflect on the various scriptures that will be used during the Church’s three major services comprising the Triduum,The other major component of the retreat will be the liturgies themselves. Holy Thursday Mass is celebrated with our St. Lawrence Seminary High School students, who leave for home on Friday morning. So the retreat also gives inquirers a chance to see the school in action for one night. The rector, Fr. John Holly, will preside. Our Director of Postulancy, Steve Kropp, will preside on Good Friday, and our Provincial Minister, John Celichowski, will preside on Holy Saturday.
Morning and evening prayers round out the prayer schedule. These are led by men in our postnovitiate program and our lay volunteers in CapCorps. In all, there are about 50 participants in the event. All the young Capuchins in formation attend except the novices who are in California. The domestic CapCorps volunteers are in attendance as well as many inquirers and candidates.
The retreat includes lots of free time for quiet reflection and lively discussion. Since people are coming from all over the province, it’s a great event for getting to know our newest members and learning what it’s like to be in Capuchin formation.
This is one of the premier discernment events of the year. All inquires and candidates are strongly encouraged to attend. In order to attend, new inquirers need to have a face-to-face interview with Fr. Bill Hugo, Midwest Capuchin Vocation Director, before the retreat: 313-595-2182; WilliamHugo1253@gmail.com or please fill out the online inquiry form.
